Opening, June 1, 5 – 9 pm at Galleri Nicolai Wallner
Galleri Nicolai Wallner has taken a huge jump into new territory. Today, June 1, the gallery presents the inaugural exhibition at its new location in Copenhagen. Entitled JUMP, the exhibition features works by A Kassen, Alexander Tovborg, Clare Rojas, Cornelia Baltes, Dan Graham, David Shrigley, Elmgreen & Dragset, Jakob Kolding, Jeppe Hein, Jonathan Monk, Jose Dávila, and Peter Land.
Playful and impulsive, physical and daring, the idea and the act of jumping go back to something childlike and primal. It is both voluntary and involuntary. We jump off of things and onto things, upwards and downwards, backwards and forwards. Jumping can be a reaction, a sign of emotion. We jump in moments of shock, but also in moment of excitement or surprise. We take metaphorical “leaps of faith”, jumping headfirst into situations and ideas. Jumping allows us to break, to move another way, and to try something new.
The exhibition is an attempt to understand how the act and the idea of jumping play out in our lives, and explores what it means to have the possibility to change direction. Thus, the artist line-up reflects the red thread that has been running throughout the gallery program since its opening in the representation of some of the most challenging contemporary artists, a group not defined by a shared aesthetic but more by a common wish to express content, tell a story, set a mark in an otherwise fluctuating world and not least – they dare to JUMP!

About Galleri Nicolai Wallner
Galleri Nicolai Wallner opened in the fall of 1993 with a selection of artists that includes the majority of its program today. As such, the inauguration of the gallery not only captured the spirit of that particular time but also sets the pace and agenda for what the gallery does today. The gallery works with a diverse group of artists all working in different media.
Even though the gallery has primarily been built on the ideals of what it means to represent a specific generation of artists over a very long period of time, it has also shown works by older, more established artists. This has been done not only to contextualise its program but also to introduce the Danish art scene to some of the most seminal artists of latter half of the 20th century.
