3 Must-See Events at Paris Gallery Weekend

By art consultant Thibault Bissirier

We asked art consultant Thibault Bissirier to highlight his 3 must-see events at Paris Gallery Weekend, which will take place in the days between 26 – 27 May, 2018, all around the city of Paris.

Catherine Melin

Marais Gallery Tour
First of all, I would recommend to simply walk through the galleries of the Marais. My favourites for this weekend of May 26th and 27th are turned towards delicate and poetic works: Catherine Melin’s astonishing graphite powder silkscreen exhibited in the Studio of the Isabelle Gounod Gallery (which also presents a solo show by Florent Lamouroux in its main space), Patrick Neu’s watercolour drawings, shown at the gallery Thaddeus Ropac (whose personal exhibition of the young Romanian painter Adrian Ghenie also deserves our full attention), and finally the brand new drawings of asteroids by Nicolas Moulin, presented in the show-room of the Valentin gallery (which will also exhibit a selection of recent paintings by the artist Anne Neukamp).

The Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts
A place that I particularly like and that I highly recommend to discover: the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Open to the public, you just have to walk around and get lost to feel the unique atmosphere of this place, crossed by the creative spirit of all the students and artists who studied here. A set of drawings by Richard Deacon is currently presented in the Jean Bonna cabinet.

La Conciergerie
Finally, not far from there, I invite all art and history lovers to go to La Conciergerie, on the Ile de la Cité (near from Notre-Dame de Paris). The French artist Stéphane Thidet is currently presenting a monumental installation, which literally diverts the Seine’s water to make it meander between the columns of the incredible vaulted hall of this magical place.
